Payment-proof review has two separate questions: is the page a suitable source, and does the displayed record prove the agreed payment? A copied explorer design can be false, while a real explorer can show a genuine transaction for someone else. Obtain the network and ID as text and verify the complete match independently.
A green success label, familiar logo or large number is insufficient by itself.
BTKWIN.COM · EDUCATIONAL EXAMPLEA genuine page can still show the wrong payment
An explorer may be authentic while the provided ID concerns another recipient, amount or asset. Conversely, a convincing imitation can display figures unrelated to actual network data.
Ask for network and transaction identifier from the sending record, then open an independently known appropriate source. A short link, QR image or button supplied by an unknown contact should not be the sole basis for trust.
The FTC’s phishing guidance supports independent verification through known channels. Do not ask a contact listed only on the suspected page to authenticate that same page.
Read the actual domain and final destination
Inspect the full domain, including whether a familiar brand appears merely inside an unrelated name or subdomain. Link text and logos do not bind the actual URL to the claimed organization.
If a redirect occurs, inspect where you ended up rather than relying on the earlier text. An encrypted HTTPS connection does not establish the operator is the intended explorer or that the selected payment record satisfies your agreement.
The same review applies to search advertisements and messages resembling official notifications. If uncertain, open the known source independently and search the identifier rather than entering credentials into an unexplained proof page.
Match the record to the expected payment
| Field | Acceptance question | Possible mismatch |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Agreed receiving route? | Similar token on another chain |
| Recipient | Correct beneficiary or output? | Payment to someone else |
| Asset identity | Correct contract or coin? | Copied name and logo |
| Quantity | Correct net amount and unit? | Unrelated total or partial amount |
| Status | Required execution and confirmation? | Real ID without completed payment |
| Agreement link | This invoice and timing? | Old record presented as new |
Examples of true data proving the wrong thing
You expect 40 units of a specific token. A transaction succeeds to your address and displays 40, but its contract differs from the accepted asset. It does not prove the agreed token arrived.
A Bitcoin transaction can show a large output total while your relevant output is smaller than the agreed quantity. Do not accept the largest visible number as a personalized receipt.
A valid identifier can also belong to an approval or other contract interaction rather than a transfer. Read what actually executed, not just the application’s label or sender’s explanation.
Names, logos and history are not complete identity checks
Token metadata can imitate a familiar asset. Match network and formal contract or identifier using reliable information before interpreting price and quantity.
History can also contain misleading similar addresses. Return to verified receiving instructions rather than selecting the latest familiar-looking row. Our address poisoning guide explains why copying can be technically correct while destination selection is wrong.
An unexpected activity entry alone does not prove key compromise. Determine whether it is an actual transfer, unfamiliar token, event or message and investigate without visiting a promotional redemption link or granting new authority.
Published message text is not an instruction from the network
An explorer can display token metadata, contract errors or messages created by others. Their presence on a genuine page does not make their links official support guidance.
MetaMask’s failed transaction scam explanation illustrates how such messages can funnel users toward new requests. Open actual product documentation independently instead.
Public transaction reading does not need a recovery phrase or private key. Optional site features requiring connection do not make that necessary merely to establish payment evidence. An unexpected signature request is another action to assess, not a viewing requirement to accept automatically.
If you already opened the link, identify what happened
Viewing a page, entering login information, connecting, signing a message, approving an allowance and sending funds are different events. Neither describe them all as harmless viewing nor assume every visit means all funds were stolen.
Open the genuine wallet directly and inspect relevant history and permissions through supported guidance. Preserve URL, ID, time and a non-secret description of requests, then stop the unverified communication route.
If sensitive data or authority was shared, follow official response guidance for that actual exposure. Do not pay another private account promising to fix everything or send a backup as proof of ownership.
Record the result without publishing all your activity
Keep network, ID, beneficiary, exact asset, quantity, state and checked time, then note the match or discrepancy against the agreement. That can explain why proof is accepted or clarification needed without broadcasting full balances and customer records.
A sender debit can differ from recipient net under a legitimate fee model. Investigate those fields rather than labeling every amount difference forgery. Our net receipt guide explains that separate arithmetic.
A correct calculation does not authenticate the page; a genuine page does not settle the agreed amount. Preserve both checks and resist pressure to deliver goods or send another payment while relevant evidence remains unresolved.
Complete the receiving check
For custodial receipt, inspect your own account credit and relevant conditions. For direct control, match account, network and actual holdings using appropriate tools. A third party’s screenshot is supporting context rather than your sole observation.
Our transfer help tool separates network state from crediting, and the wallet helper distinguishes viewing from signing authority.
A full destination comparison remains necessary even when the first and last characters look right. Verification should establish the intended beneficiary, supported asset and actual result, not just the appearance of a professional proof page.
Do not let urgency determine acceptance
A sender pressing for immediate delivery may still have provided incomplete evidence. State the specific unresolved field, such as the token contract or recipient output, and ask for clarification through the established relationship. Verification is easier to review when it identifies a concrete mismatch instead of making an unsupported accusation or accepting a screenshot simply to end the conversation.
