Crypto Average Cost Calculator

FREE CALCULATOR · BTKWIN

Combine up to 12 purchases to find your weighted average cost per unit, including fees.

Use one currency for all fields. This changes the label only; no exchange-rate conversion is performed.

Use a decimal point for fractions. Commas are accepted for thousands, such as 1,000.50.

How to calculate your average purchase cost

Add one row for each purchase. Enter the asset value before fees, the price per unit and the fee percentage. This calculator treats the fee as an extra cash cost added to that purchase value. It does not subtract fees from the crypto quantity.

For each row, units equal purchase value ÷ unit price. Add all units, add all purchase values and cash fees, then divide the total cost by the total units. The result is a weighted average: a larger purchase has more influence than a smaller one. Simply averaging the listed prices will usually give the wrong answer when quantities differ.

Worked example: two purchases at different prices

Suppose you buy 500 worth at a unit price of 100, then another 500 worth at a price of 50. The first purchase provides 5 units and the second 10 units, for 15 units altogether. With a 1% fee added to each purchase, total cash cost is 1,010 and the average cost is approximately 67.33 per unit.

The arithmetic average of the two prices is 75, which does not reflect the larger quantity acquired at 50. “Try an example” loads this case so you can inspect the relationship between units, fees and cost.

Reading the output

The main number is the average cost per unit, including the entered fees. The other figures show total units, total cash cost and fees separately. Choose one quote currency for all rows. Selecting CAD, USD or USDT changes the unit label only; it does not convert historical exchange rates.

For a possible exit scenario, enter an appropriate total cash outlay and unit cost in the profit calculator and check the fee assumptions carefully. An average purchase cost by itself does not show what a future sale will return after selling fees and other costs.

Important limitations

This is a purchase-only calculation. It does not adjust for earlier sales, transfers, staking rewards, airdrops, token splits or fees deducted in asset units. If those events occurred, reconcile quantities against your records before treating the output as a current holding cost.

The result is an educational cost estimate, not a tax calculation or a recommendation to buy more after a price decline. Tax cost-basis rules and reporting requirements may differ from this simple model. Inputs stay in the page and are not saved by the calculator.
