Trading Profit Screenshots: Six Questions About Performance and Risk

A screenshot can display a genuine selected profit while revealing little about the whole account, its risk or repeatability. Even authenticating the image does not answer every performance question. Check the period, included activity, costs, result type, capital and path before relying on it to evaluate a service or claim.

Counting green cards is different from measuring their total effect on the account.

Question one: what period does the image cover?

Look for start, end, timezone and number of operations. One profitable day does not describe a complete month, and an open position at its best moment is not its final outcome. Missing dates should remain unknown rather than being assumed from the caption.

Suppose a hypothetical account gains five hundred on one day and loses seven hundred over the rest of that week. The week totals −200 before other adjustments. Publishing only the winning day can establish that selected day’s result if the data is genuine, not the entire week’s performance.

Repeated use of the same picture in different posts also does not create independent observations. Preserve links, dates and captions when reviewing a claim so reposts are not counted as additional profitable sessions. Reuse alone is not proof of forgery; it is a limitation on what the collection demonstrates.

Question two: are losses and the relevant activity included?

A screenshot can show one trade while excluding other positions or attempts. Match the evidence to the scope of the claim. A claim about a whole account needs records for that account, while a claim about a method needs a consistent definition of the included operations.

Assume ten hypothetical trades: eight gain ten each and two lose fifty each. The win rate is 80%, but gains of eighty minus losses of one hundred produce −20. Neither the number of green rows nor a high success percentage captures the different amounts.

Hypothetical groupCountPer-trade resultTotal
Winners8+10+80
Losers2−50−100

Percentages on different allocations should not simply be added as equal account returns. A 20% gain on a small amount can be outweighed by a 2% loss on much more capital. Without denominators and an aggregation method, clear percentage labels may still be insufficient to calculate the account impact.

Question three: before costs or after them?

Check applicable execution commissions, funding, borrowing, service and transfer charges. Do not impose costs belonging to another product, but do not assume omitted costs are zero. The Investor.gov performance-claims bulletin discusses the significance of presentation, included costs and hypothetical results.

Suppose ten units are bought at one hundred and sold at one hundred one. Gross price gain is ten. Hypothetical entry and exit fees of two and 2.02 leave 5.98. A card displaying +10 answers the net-result question only if its field definition explains how those fees are treated.

A paid signal subscription can also sit outside the platform’s trading report. Separate account performance from the economic result after service costs and identify the covered subscription period. Compare alternatives on the same basis rather than one before expenses and another afterward.

Question four: realized, unrealized or simulated?

An open position’s marked gain changes with its reference price and has not necessarily been converted into proceeds. The whole quantity may also face depth and fees on exit. Identify whether the image shows a position valuation, completed trades or an account-level result.

Separate live execution from paper trading and historical testing. All can use familiar interfaces, but simulated results depend on execution, timing and data assumptions. A recognizable platform logo does not establish that the account was live or that every backtest fill was achievable.

Even genuine completed trades do not guarantee another user can copy them. Information-arrival time, order size, available liquidity, fees and eligibility can differ. The paper-trading guide details model boundaries, while the P&L guide separates valuations from disposed quantities.

Question five: what capital base and external flows apply?

A profit of one hundred is 10% of one thousand or 1% of ten thousand before timing and cost differences. State whether a displayed return uses account equity, allocated margin, acquisition cost or notional exposure. A high margin-relative result is not automatically the whole account’s return.

An account starting at one thousand and reaching one thousand five hundred after an external deposit of five hundred has no investment gain in that simplified example. A withdrawal also does not by itself establish an equal trading loss. Review dated funding flows and the performance method.

A large final exchange balance does not establish net wealth without other assets and obligations. Evidence of a withdrawal confirms that movement under its own scope, not necessarily the origin of funds or profitability of every earlier transaction. Each record should support the question it actually answers.

Question six: what risk and path preceded the endpoint?

Suppose an account starts at one thousand, falls to five hundred and ends at one thousand one hundred with no external flows. Its endpoint gain is 10%, but the observed path includes a 50% drawdown from the starting peak. A final balance screenshot hides that experience.

Review chronological equity, exposure, position size and applicable leverage or obligations. Closed-trade results can omit still-open losses, and scattered snapshots cannot establish a complete maximum-drawdown series. The drawdown guide explains data requirements.

Leverage can magnify the effect of price movement relative to margin and add liquidation and funding rules. A large number paired with a claim of easy profit is incomplete without those conditions. Recreating the transaction with your own funds is not a necessary way to investigate the evidence.

Seek useful evidence without surrendering account control

Request a defined explanation and suitable records with unnecessary personal information redacted. Neither party needs to exchange passwords, recovery words or private keys to review performance. Verify official service sources independently rather than relying on a message from someone claiming to represent them.

The FTC cryptocurrency-scam guidance discusses guaranteed-return claims and fake investment displays, including demands for additional withdrawal payments. A superficial similarity does not alone prove wrongdoing in an individual case, but a profit image is insufficient evidence to justify a transfer or release payment.

State conclusions narrowly: one profitable position is shown, costs are undefined or open holdings are absent. Preserve what is verified and unresolved rather than declaring comprehensive trust from a screenshot. The six questions turn the image into a starting point for evidence review, not a substitute for it.
