Crypto recommendations: six checks before trusting a prediction

A profit screenshot or large follower count does not establish a reliable crypto recommendation. Treat a signal as a claim that needs evidence, timing and execution assumptions. These six checks help assess the information without turning a forecast into a guarantee.

1. Verify the source’s identity and claim

Identify who made the recommendation and what exactly is being asserted. A market opinion, paid promotion, account-management offer and educational example are different activities. A copied logo or familiar name in a private message is not sufficient identity evidence.

Find the original publication through an established channel. Do not rely only on a forwarded screenshot that can omit context or be altered. If the claim involves credentials, registration or a company, check the relevant official source and scope rather than accepting a badge.

Write the claim neutrally: asset, direction, horizon and conditions. If those cannot be extracted, the message may be too vague to evaluate. Do not fill missing terms with the most favourable interpretation.

2. Preserve the original timestamp

A recommendation published before a move differs from commentary after it. Record the date, time, timezone and original wording. A repost or edited message can make hindsight appear predictive if the original record is not preserved.

Ask whether entry, exit and cancellation conditions were defined before the outcome. A statement such as buy soon and sell when appropriate is difficult to test. A later selection of the best price in the interval does not establish that subscribers could have executed there.

Keep the relevant data period separate from publication time. A historical backtest is not a current account result. The news verification guide explains why event and publication dates need separate treatment.

3. Inspect a complete record

Winning selections alone can hide losses, cancelled ideas and open positions. Request the full stated period and clear inclusion rules. A high claimed success rate is incomplete without the number of observations, definition of success and handling of unresolved trades.

Use a hypothetical example: a record with eight 10-dollar gains and two 50-dollar losses has an 80% win rate but a 20-dollar gross loss. Adding costs makes the outcome worse. The win percentage did not describe the payoff distribution.

Hypothetical outcomesCountAmount eachTotal
Winners8+$10+$80
Losers2−$50−$100
Gross result10—−$20

A screenshot can also omit deposits, leverage and unrealised losses. Inspect what the displayed field measures. A balance increase funded by new deposits is not automatically trading profit, and a marked gain is not necessarily realised cash.

4. Read the adverse assumptions

Ask what would make the view wrong and what loss or failed execution the method permits. A forecast that explains only favourable outcomes is incomplete. The absence of a stated downside does not make the downside zero.

Do not assume a stop price guarantees the loss limit. Trigger and execution are different stages, and a stop-limit can remain unfilled. The stop-order guide explains those mechanics without certifying any particular signal.

If leverage is involved, read collateral, financing and closeout terms. A result measured on initial capital can look dramatic because exposure is larger. The leverage guide separates that arithmetic from a claim of superior predictive ability.

5. Include realistic execution and costs

A hypothetical chart entry at a candle low may not have been available for the intended quantity. Record the venue, pair, order type and timing assumptions. Include partial fills, spread and any relevant restrictions rather than assuming unlimited execution at the plotted price.

Trading, funding, conversion and withdrawal can change the outcome. A strategy with frequent small gross gains can be particularly sensitive to costs. Check whether the reported results include them and whether the cost assumptions match the actual account.

The fill guide and fee worksheet provide practical calculations. Neither can establish that a screenshot is genuine or that an unknown service will honour withdrawals.

6. Identify the commercial interest

Read sponsorships, referral relationships, token holdings and products sold around the recommendation. An interest does not automatically make every fact false, but it can affect which facts are selected and how urgency is framed.

Be especially cautious when a prediction leads directly to sending assets to a personal wallet, giving remote access or paying another amount to release supposed earnings. Verify the destination and service independently. A plausible market argument does not authenticate the recipient.

Do not share account passwords, verification codes or wallet recovery information with someone who offers to execute the idea for you. Account-management authority is a separate consequential relationship, not an ordinary requirement for reading market analysis.

Use a claim review sheet

EvidenceComplete record and source

DownsideFailure and loss scenarios
CostsWhat is included or omitted
InterestPromotional or financial relationship

Mark missing information and retain the original version. Do not change the success criterion after the price moves. A recommendation can be clearly stated and still be wrong; a vague statement can appear right only because its meaning keeps changing.

The research plan offers an alternative to chasing signals. Convert the message into questions about the asset, route and exposure. A useful review can lead to declining or postponing action, without pretending that a checklist can guarantee the next outcome.

Test how the record handles missing outcomes

Ask what happens when a recommended order never fills, a target is reached only after the stated horizon or an open position has a large unrealised loss. A method that counts only completed winners can look better than the full experience. Define these cases before calculating a success rate.

For a paper review, use one fixed period and preserve every qualifying claim, including changed or cancelled ideas. Apply consistent entry, exit and cost rules. This does not prove future reliability, but it prevents an attractive screenshot from substituting for a method. If the record cannot support that reconstruction, describe its limit rather than inventing missing trades or assuming the omitted cases were favourable.
