To understand a withdrawal, distinguish what you requested, what left your account and what the recipient actually received. A service charge can differ from the network transaction fee. Begin with the final preview and reconcile it with the receipt using consistent units, network and scope.
The definition of the amount field determines which model applies. These are illustrative fees.
BTKWIN.COM · EDUCATIONAL EXAMPLEThree amounts give a clearer picture
Record the request amount as the service defines it, actual total debit and net asset quantity at the destination. The first number can match either of the others depending on fee treatment. Saying you withdrew 250 is incomplete without naming which amount it describes.
If debit and receipt are the same asset and no other operation intervenes, their difference describes transfer cost within that boundary. A route involving purchase, conversion or several steps needs each stage recorded separately.
Kraken’s withdrawal fee information notes that fees can change and the final confirmation matters. Use the current account-specific preview rather than a saved comparison for another region, asset or network.
Deducting a fee and adding it produce different totals
| Item | Fee inside the request | Fee added to recipient amount |
|---|---|---|
| Entered amount | 250 | 250 |
| Assumed service fee | 2.5 | 2.5 |
| Account debit | 250 | 252.5 |
| Recipient net | 247.5 | 250 |
Read the actual field definition
The difference in the example is what the entered number represents, not a change in subtraction or asset units. Do not apply either model to a real service until its preview identifies debit and net receipt.
If a complete invoice amount must arrive, focus on the recipient’s net quantity and ensure the balance covers total debit. With a fixed budget, inspect how much remains after deductions. Fees in another currency or additional conditions need separate entries.
A fee rate and a fixed amount also have different units. Record whether a displayed percentage operates on requested value, converted value or another defined base rather than assuming the label explains the full formula.
Service pricing need not equal a personalized network cost
A custodial service can batch customer withdrawals, choose construction and charge according to its schedule. The explorer’s fee belongs to the complete broadcast transaction, not necessarily one customer’s request.
Several outputs can include different recipients and change. Dividing one fee by an output count does not prove how the service priced your request or what each output cost to create.
This does not establish every deduction is correct. Compare the actual debit and receipt with the accepted preview and applicable terms. Ask for an explanation of a specific discrepancy rather than assuming either the schedule or a simple explorer division settles it.
Fixed, percentage and minimum-based fees change comparisons
Suppose two hypothetical compatible offers charge 0.2% with a one-unit minimum and a fixed 2.5 units respectively. At a 250-unit base, the percentage gives 0.5 but the minimum makes the charge one. At 2,000, that charge becomes four, while the fixed charge remains 2.5.
Where the minimum does not bind, equality occurs at 2.5 divided by 0.002, or 1,250 units. This is a break-even calculation for the specified example, not a current provider ranking.
Check how actual tiers, caps, currencies or account conditions affect the formula. A winning offer at one amount need not be cheaper at another, and lower cost does not make an unsupported receiving route suitable.
Compare equivalent routes before adding other costs
Hold asset, network, amount, destination and time reasonably consistent. If the alternatives deliver different token versions or unsupported networks, the fee comparison is not enough. Exclude incompatibility first.
If the route needs purchase, swap, bridge or another transfer, include those necessary stages and their risks. A quoted market price can differ from execution, and fees deducted before withdrawal can reduce the quantity available.
Use the transfer fee calculator to organize the amounts while recording assumptions outside its model. A precise total missing a required later step is not a complete comparison.
The receiving minimum is a net-amount question
The sending service may permit withdrawal while the quantity arriving fails the receiver’s crediting conditions. Do not substitute the sender’s withdrawal minimum for the receiver’s deposit minimum. Their roles and definitions differ.
A request equal to the minimum before deduction may arrive below it. Read current receiving instructions, including asset, network, required identifiers and service availability. Correct fee arithmetic does not repair a wrong route or missing memo.
If splitting into a test and main payment, budget both fees and ensure the test satisfies applicable limits. Splitting or combining is not automatically cheaper. Define what the test establishes and how you will verify the result before another transfer.
Investigate an actual mismatch by stage
Begin with the withdrawal receipt and account debit, then inspect the relevant recipient output or token transfer on the correct network. Do not use the total of a batched transaction as your receipt. Next inspect the receiving account’s deposit record.
A successful network delivery awaiting account credit differs from an excessive deduction. Prepare the preview amount, actual debit, actual receipt, asset, network, time and references. Ask official support to explain the particular difference.
A current fee table alone may not establish what applied to a historical request if terms changed. Preserve the operation’s own receipt and context. Avoid sending another amount to cover an unexplained difference before diagnosis.
Keep valuation separate from the asset fee
A fee can remain constant in asset units while its fiat value moves with price. A fee schedule can change too, but a dollar comparison alone cannot distinguish them. Compare quantity, unit and observation time.
Our unit conversion guide explains the fixed BTC-satoshi relationship. For missing funds, the transfer help tool organizes execution and crediting questions without needing recovery secrets.
The useful final record reconciles request, debit and receipt with all relevant cost categories named. A low advertised fee is only one part of a route that must also deliver a compatible usable asset to the right recipient.
Preserve the comparison date
Keep the time and source for each quote beside the amount and network. If a later preview differs, compare like with like before attributing the difference to an unexplained deduction. Fees, conversion prices and supported routes can change independently, so the original accepted preview remains useful evidence.
