Compare the whole route: funding, buying, execution and withdrawal. An advertised trading fee is one line in the calculation, not necessarily everything you pay.
Net sale proceeds are about 1,176.24. The example assumes no other costs or change in execution price.
BTKWIN.COM · EDUCATIONAL EXAMPLE1. Define the route you want to compare
Buying an asset and keeping it on a platform is a different transaction from buying it, transferring it to a wallet, later selling it and withdrawing cash to a bank. Write down the steps first. When comparing services, use the same amount, payment method, trading pair and intended destination. Otherwise, a lower headline fee may be answering a different question.
A useful comparison has a start and an end: for example, a specified cash outlay at the beginning and the quantity of crypto received in a wallet at the end. Another comparison might end with cash back in a bank account. Do not combine those two routes into one ranking without showing which steps and costs each includes.
The statement “zero trading fees” does not tell you the executable purchase price, what funding costs, or what it costs to leave. It may be accurate about a particular commission while leaving other parts of your route unchanged. Read the confirmation screen as well as the fee schedule, and record the date because a quote or schedule is a snapshot.
2. Separate five types of cost
| Cost | What to record |
|---|---|
| Payment or deposit | Card or transfer charges and any applicable limits. |
| Trading | Buy and sell percentages, the amount they apply to, and the currency charged. |
| Spread and execution | The price available for your intended quantity, rather than only the last trade. |
| Withdrawal or transfer | The service’s withdrawal charge and the asset network you intend to use. |
| Conversion and account services | Any applicable currency conversion, custody or additional service charge. |
Some services include costs in a quoted price and list others separately. Do not subtract a charge twice when it is already included in the net amount shown. Conversely, do not assume a fee is included simply because the interface displays a large total. Check whether that total means asset value before fees, cash paid including fees, or an estimated amount received.
Keep the units attached to each figure. A cash fee and a crypto network fee cannot be added as bare numbers. If you convert them into one reporting currency, record the conversion price and time. If you cannot support a conversion, leave the two costs separate instead of presenting a false combined total.
3. A 20% price rise does not mean a 20% net gain
Here is a hypothetical example that matches BTKWIN’s profit calculator. Your total purchase budget is 1,000, including a 1% buy fee, and the price is 100 per unit. The quantity is 1,000 ÷ [100 × 1.01], or approximately 9.9009901 units. You do not acquire ten full units under this budget-including-fees assumption.
At a sell price of 120 and a 1% sell fee, gross proceeds are approximately 1,188.12 and net proceeds approximately 1,176.24. Net profit is 176.24, about 17.62% of the initial outlay. The asset price rose 20%; the cash return after the two fees was lower. No other costs or execution differences are assumed.
If your service’s amount field instead represents asset value before fees, the total cash you pay or quantity you receive will differ. Read the field definition before comparing the calculator with an account statement. A calculator can apply its stated model correctly and still differ from a service that charges fees in another way.
4. A commission is not the whole execution cost
When liquidity is limited or prices move during execution, the actual filled price can differ from an earlier quote. A limit order imposes a price condition but may remain partly or entirely unfilled. A market order requests execution against available liquidity under the service’s rules; the price you saw before sending it is not a guaranteed final price.
Treat the spread, execution price and explicit commission as separate concepts. A difference between your expected price and the filled price is not automatically an extra commission. To investigate, compare the relevant quote, timestamp, order type, filled quantities and fee entries rather than attributing every discrepancy to the same cause.
For an order with several fills, calculate the quantity-weighted average price. Three units at 100 and two at 105 have a total value of 510 and an average of 102. Averaging the two prices without quantities gives 102.5, which describes a different calculation. The average fill price guide explains how to reconcile those records.
5. Keep a comparison you can reproduce
Record the date, quote currency, payment method, asset, network and transaction size. Keep the purchase value, quantity and charges shown in the confirmation. Add selling and withdrawal costs only when those steps are part of your comparison, and distinguish an estimate made before execution from a transaction that has actually settled.
For a simple cash-only example, suppose you enter a fixed exit cost of 5 after the earlier sale calculation. Net proceeds become about 1,171.24 and net profit about 171.24. The extra 5 is a hypothetical input, not a quoted platform charge. It shows why the comparison should carry the complete route through to its stated end point.
Investor.gov explains the general impact of investment fees. That guidance does not supply the current fee schedule of a crypto service. Obtain the actual amounts and charging rules from the service you are evaluating, then preserve enough information to check them later.
A practical worksheet
Use separate columns for the amount before fees, the explicit fee, its currency, the amount received and the source of the number. Mark estimated entries clearly. If the same charge appears in both a fee preview and a final ledger, reconcile them instead of adding both. A preview and its eventual charge are not necessarily two different expenses.
When you revisit the comparison, confirm that the transaction assumptions still match. A different payment route, network, quantity or order type can change the calculation even if the advertised trading percentage is unchanged. This method helps you understand a cost comparison; it does not establish that an asset or provider is suitable for you.
All examples here are educational and exclude taxes and any cost not entered. The currency selector in our calculators changes a label only. It does not retrieve exchange rates, verify a platform’s fees or execute a transaction.
