A USB drive stores files. A hardware wallet manages keys and signs requests through a dedicated design. Either may have a role in a custody plan, but a similar size or connector does not make them interchangeable. Follow the key through a complete transaction before comparing the products.
Importing a private key and restoring a wallet from a recovery phrase are not equivalent operations. One can add a particular account while the other derives accounts under a supported setup. Identify the data’s scope and future backup method before selecting an import or restore button.
Moving a wallet to another phone is more than downloading the same app. Confirm that the intended accounts, networks and signing methods are restored before retiring the old access path. A first visible account is evidence for that account, not proof the entire setup moved.
A watch-only wallet can monitor public account data without placing its ordinary on-chain signing keys on the viewing device. Its balance can still be incomplete if the imported scope is wrong. Check the network, account coverage and data source before treating the display as a complete record.
A backup test should establish the intended access path, not merely that a sheet of words exists. Preserve the working wallet, define the exact scope and use the product’s documented process. A successful check proves only what that check actually examined.
